ANNOTATION 
The National Institute for Education (hereinafter also NIE) is the beneficiary of the pre-defined project "Innovative Education for Teachers to Increase Their Intercultural Competences in the Educational Process of Roma Pupils" well-known as "Together with Roma We Will Achieve More".

The main objective of the project is to support the systemic implementation of the Romani language and literature teaching at all levels of education within school educational programmes in schools with pupils from Roma communities, the promotion of intercultural education and democratic and inclusive school environment.

The project's activities are aimed at:

  • creating publications on the Romani language and literature, culture and history of the Roma.
  • preparing and conducting innovative education for pre-primary, primary, lower and upper secondary school teachers in areas of Romani language, culture and history, innovative educational methods, education and training on human rights and democratic citizenship.
  • preparing and conducting innovative education for school management.
  • conducting conferences and workshops.
  • creating methodological (educational) platform which will provide outputs of this project, and of projects carried out by the NIE in the previous period.
  • publishing teaching materials.

PROJECT ACTIVITIES
Activity 1: Opening conference, interim conference and final conference
This activity includes three conferences: opening, interim and final conference. Their aim is to promote all project activities, the beneficiary and the project partner, but also to make the project donor visible and to present the results and outputs of the project.

Activity 2: Innovative educational programmes for school management and innovative educational trainings for pedagogical staff
Within this activity, educational programmes, study materials for teachers in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools will be developed. Representatives from school management and pedagogical and professional school employees will be trained to enhance their work with pupils from Roma communities from socially disadvantaged environment, especially in areas such as the Romani language, Roma culture and innovative educational methods and forms of teaching.

Activity 3: Preparing teachers for the Romani language examination
The syllabus of educational programme will be prepared and trainings will be carried out for participants in a form of in-person and distance learning. Participants in this training will be prepared for the state language examination in the Romani language (level C1). The National Institute for Education will ensure state language examinations are organized for all graduates.

Activity 4: International workshops

Four international workshops will take place in Norway. The content of the workshops will be prepared and organized by the project beneficiary in cooperation with the project partner. The workshops will be aimed at evaluating the implementation of project activities, updating the timetable of project activities as well as planning of other joint activities.

Activity 5: Study visits (trainings) in Norway
Two one-week study visits (trainings) at the European Wergeland Centre in Norway will be carried out for teachers. The aim of these study visits/trainings is to deepen, enhance and interconnect the acquired theoretical knowledge in the field of intercultural education within the framework of Activity 2 with best practices of the Norwegian educational system. Trainees will be able to see the work of Norwegian educators with pupils at schools and to familiarise themselves with pedagogical practice within inclusive education (education of pupils of different nationalities and cultures). The content of educational trainings will be prepared in cooperation with the European Wergeland Centre, the project partner.

Activity 6: Trainings for multipliers/trainers in human rights education and democratic citizenship
This activity includes the training of multipliers/trainers in human rights education and democratic citizenship. The training is aimed at increasing the number of professionals in this field, i.e. to train trainers, teachers, or other actors in educational system to be able to work towards democratic citizenship and inclusive school development. The established network of multipliers/trainers will support the implementation of the Slovak Academy "Democratic and Inclusive School Environment for All".

Activity 7: Slovak Academy “Democratic and Inclusive School Environment for All “
The Slovak Academy "Democratic and Inclusive School Environment for All" (hereinafter also the Academy) is aimed at promoting democratic school environment in the Slovak Republic, enhancing professional competences of school management, teachers and other actors in the field of education, supporting partnership and cooperation of schools in the field of education on human rights and democratic citizenship. Participants will acquire practical tools and strategies to create a democratic and inclusive school environment for all pupils through a school-wide approach. The Academy will include an analysis of each school's needs and situation and will allow school teams to create their action plan which will respond to challenges their school faces. The implementation and evaluation phase of the action plans of the participating schools will run for one school year.

Activity 8: Teaching materials
Teaching materials will continuously be prepared during the realization of the project. Teams of authors will be set up, timetables for pilot verification of teaching materials will be agreed directly with schools. It will be followed by editorial work, printing, and distribution of publications. After reviewing, correcting, and editing texts in Slovak and Romani languages, the publications will be graphically designed and published.
