ANNOTATION
Support of multilingual classroom is a joint initiative of the European Centre for Modern Languages of the Council of Europe and European Commission in order to provide its member states support in ensuring access to quality education for children of foreigners. Language competences are seen as key cross-cutting competences in education, employability and social cohesion. The integration of children of foreigners reflects the need to support schools in their effort to successfully manage the process of inclusion of this target group into the educational process on all levels. Schools play a key role in the integration process not only in the context of school environment but also in the context of integration into the local community and to the society.

Between April and December 2021, the initiative Supporting Multilingual Classrooms will be organized in cooperation between ECML and the relevant institution in nine countries: Austria, Croatia, Cyprus, Ireland, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Slovakia and Sweden. The activity in the Slovak Republic will be carried out as an online workshop focusing on the education of children of foreigners and their inclusion in the educational system. The activity is aimed at primary and secondary schools from all regions in the Slovak Republic established within the network of schools and school facilities of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic (schools with Slovak language as the language of instruction, schools with national minority language as the language of instruction, schools with teaching national minority language) and language teachers (teachers of Slovak language and literature, teachers of national minority language, foreign language teachers) or professionals dealing with teacher education and/or the respective topic.
